Marcy Axness, PhD (Faculty)

Parenting for Peace Advisor School of Health & Wellness

Marcy Axness, PhD, is an early development specialist, parent coach and author of Parenting for Peace: Raising the Next Generation of Peacemakers, a book whose premise is, If we really want to change the world we need to raise a generation who are “wired for peace,” beginning in the womb.  The win-win is that a child whose neuro-social development is nurtured in this vibrantly healthy way is a joy to parent, and as an adult has the heart to embrace and exemplify peace, the mind to innovate solutions to social and ecological challenges, and the will to enact them.

One of the world’s few experts on primal issues in adoption, Dr. Axness is also a recognized authority on prenatal development, interpersonal neurobiology, and Waldorf education.  Using as a narrative foundation her experience as an adoptee and a mother, Marcy’s interdisciplinary purview integrates prenatal psychology, attachment theory, brain development, consciousness studies and the new biology.  This scope together with her willingness to be authentically present as someone whose own life experiences embody central themes of her curricula makes Dr. Marcy a popular international speaker on new findings in the science of human thriving and their implications for enriching personal life and professional practice.

She is proud to have been mentored by such new-paradigm thinkers as Bruce Lipton and Joseph Chilton Pearce, and to have taught prenatal development at Santa Barbara Graduate Institute alongside prenatal psychology pioneers, Thomas Verny and David Chamberlain.

However, Marcy views as perhaps her most important credential that during her 25-year marriage she birthed two babies, mothered two toddlers, shepherded two school-aged children, parented two teens, and is proud to have seen two extraordinary individuals—Ian and Eve—out of the nest and into the world to pursue their paths of life artistry.
